Failing to attend a detention she'd been given for not doing homework on several occasions resulted in her first punishment. Her second caning came about because she had been warned that her school work needed to show a significant improvement before the end of term. Poor results in her end of  year internal exams lead to her second thrashing in six months. In 1975 things were very different to today, that's for sure.
