Re your comment on In the Realm of the Senses, you will be interested in this article which I think describes it very well. I wouldn't agree that it's an obscure film, although ironically Japan remains one country where it has still never been shown uncensored. The whole point of the film was that it was a political critique. That Japanese society continues to treat it as pornography shows how correct Oshima was in his critique. The article reveals more.
